Hi, Its Jennifer from Platinum Skin Care and I am here to answer another one of your questions. Today’s question is: What can I do about my dark circles?
DARK CIRCLES … What CAN you do about them?
First of all, you have to figure out what is causing them, and there are many reasons.
Make sure that your dark circles are more than just a matter of sleep deprivation. That can happen to the best of us! If you are getting adequate sleep though, then look into allergies.
Now, I know what you are thinking. I don’t have allergies! Well, allergies don’t always cause sneezing or a stuffy nose. So doing an experiment is best practice. Here is a simple test to see if your circles are caused by allergies
Try using an OTC like Claritin every day for a few weeks. If your dark circles fade away, then you found your cure! SIMPLE
Now, what if they didn’t? Let’s dive right in.
If you have light skin, and your circles are a purplish color, then they are most likely caused by blood vessels just below the skin.
Here is a super simple trick to find out. Stand in front of a mirror. Now press on the darker skin. If the color instantly gets lighter, then it is most likely blood vessels. This you will want to treat with a laser like the Cool Laser, or
So let’s talk about pigmentation.
If you have olive skin or darker, and your circles are brown, they are most likely just pigmentation.
You will want to start treating this by using a retinoid serum like our Retinol Molecular Serum or the prescription Tretinoin to reduce pigmentation and stimulate new cell turnover. You will also want to apply a topical lightening ingredient such as Alpha Arbutin, Kojic Acid or other lightening acids such as Mandelic or Lactic.
Make sure to include some of the newest, patented ingredients as well, like:
- REVITAL EYES which can improve capillary strength and reduce the pooling of blood.
- REGU-AGE which improves micro-circulation and the integrity of collagen and elastin.
- BEAUTIF-EYE which lessens the intensity of red and blue in the eye area.
- EYESERYL which can help to drain the eye bags that many times accompany those dark circles!
All of these ingredients can be found in our Eye Duo which consists of Platinum Eyes Restoration Therapy and our Caffeine Eye Roller!
Fade Bright is another Platinum Product that can be used for targeting pigmentation spots. It can be used around the eyes and all over the face and body. It’s very versatile.
Another way to treat dark circles is by using a very low percentage of TCA such as a 5-8% formulation. You can create this by diluting our 13% or 20% TCA formulas. You will need to perform a very light, one layer peel 1x every 3 weeks or so. Do a series of 4 to 5 peels. Contact us if you need more direction with this! Continue using other lightening products in the meantime.
Couple quick last tips.
- Make sure to keep your eyes well hydrated and use products containing caffeine to tighten the skin every day. This will help your eyes look more awake and Will lessen the shadows that are caused by bags.
- Be GENTLE with your eye area! Dab on your treatments and don’t be aggressive.
If you have any issues beyond what we have talked about today, or you are experiencing irritations, then it is time to call the dermatologist! You could have underlying eczema or another reason that is causing your darkness or you may require a prescription.
Well… that is it for now.
